Qi Zhang successfully defended his dissertation entitled “Social-Ecological Impacts of China’s Payments for Ecosystem Services Programs on Land Use, Migration and Livelihoods” on March 31, 2017. Congratulations Dr. Zhang!

Chris Hakkenberg successfully defended his dissertation entitled “Mapping plant diversity and composition across North Carolina Piedmont forest landscape using LiDAR-hyperspectral remote sensing” on March 28, 2017. Congratulations Dr. Hakkenberg!

Matthew Dannenberg successfully defended his dissertation entitled “Environmental Limitations on Forest Growth and Productivity in North America” on March 7, 2017. Congratulations Dr. Dannenberg!

The Song Lab welcomes Ms. Yilian Gao from East China Normal University as a visiting graduate student. Ms. Gao will be working on her thesis during December 1,2016-March 31, 2017.

The Song Lab welcomes Ms. Qiaoli Wu from Beijing Normal University as a visiting PhD student. Ms. Wu will be working on her dissertation under Dr. Song’s direction for two years from October 2016 to October 2018. Her visit is supported by China Scholarship Council.

The Song Lab welcomes Ms. Ying Wang from China University of Geoscience Wuhan as a visiting PhD student. Ms. Wang will be working on her dissertation under Dr. Song’s direction for two years from December 2015 to December 2017. Her visit is supported by China Scholarship Council.

The Song Lab welcomes Mr. Tong Qiu from Wuhan University as the new PhD student starting Fall 2015. Mr. Qiu comes in with a strong remote sensing background.

Congratulations to Chong Liu who successfully defended his dissertation on May 28, 2015 at Wuhan University. Dr. Liu spent a year as a visiting PhD student in the lab here from November 2013-November 2014. As a result, I served as his foreign co-advisor. His dissertation title is “Extracting Impervious Surface [From Remote Sensing] and Evaluating its Impacts on Terrestrial Ecosystem Carbon and Water Fluxes on the Regional Scale”

The Song Lab welcomes Dr. Yiling He who arrived on May 4, 2015 as a visiting scholar from Beijing Forestry University. She will spend 6 months in the lab.

The Song Lab welcomes Dr. Kerong Zhang who arrived on April 22, 2015 as a visiting scholar from Wuhan Botanical Garden, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Dr. Zhang will spend a year at UNC Chapel Hill.

Congratulations to Qi Zhang, who just successfully defended his dissertation proposal in front of his dissertation committee on April 27, 2015. He is now officially an ABD.
